"I develop effective executive leaders so they can inspire, connect, and manage with emotional intelligence and empathy."
- Edwyn Kumar
What happens when the business has grown faster than you? One to One coaching allows for a secure place to have your philosophy & beliefs be both empowered and challenged. An executive has to make key decisions every day, and having effective advisory is fundamental to senior leadership.
Running a successful business requires a solid team. We will work with you to define your teams strengths, personal development and conflict management to generate higher levels of synergy and alignment. A leadership culture that promotes healthy communication built on the foundation of emotional intelligence and critical thinking excels at business goals and objectives.
Weekly group coaching sessions focusing on the development of leadership skills, emotional intelligence (EQ), Positive Psychology, communications, negotiations, resilience, conflict management, the language of emotions, and effective relationship management.
At Ultra Team Development, we understand that every business is unique, and your growth plan needs a personalized approach. Our two day strategic retreat works on three areas of your business: 1. The Leadership, 2. The Growth Plan, and 3. Alignment of Objectives.
Much of Edwyn’s work involves helping teams overcome specific obstacles, and many of his clients already have critical problem-solving skills. That brings its own set of challenges:
“To problem-solve, you have to be problem aware. And this ends up creating a very negative mindset
in other areas.”
He began researching this observation, looking for ways to help his clients develop “the ability to use problem-solving as a strength.”
He notes, “Positive psychology became the thing that could take the challenge and frame it in a different manner.”
I've been a business manager and leader my whole life. I started leadership at a young age when I worked at a daycare while in middle school for elementary school kids. I'm a lifetime martial artist and an ultra marathoner. I also ride a motorcycle on the racetrack whenever possible.
My wife and I met in high school and we've been blessed with two boys who are empathetic, caring and artistic. Our eldest is in health care for therapeutic massage, and our youngest is involved with music production.
When it comes to consulting and coaching, my firm has two facets to it:
1 - business consulting with a human first approach, so I start with the people before moving to the systems
2 - one to one coaching for personal and professional development. I use multiple models and styles here, focusing on emotional intelligence growth, behavioural profiling, and emotional connection via therapeutic models. I also use value and strength based exploration within a positive psychology framework quite liberally.
I have grown up and live in Vancouver British Columbia Canada.
My core beliefs are that we have it within us, as individuals and with complete agency, the ability to heal, grow and fulfill our ideal self identity. The personal development journey won't be easy, as perseverance and resilience as a trait are only necessary when there is challenge and adversity.
I believe that my clients are complete selves, and removing obfuscation on the path to self discovery is massively beneficial. There is no "empty vessel" style of coaching in my personal client relationships. I believe in mental health in our personal and professional lives.
I would love to hear from you and learn about where you are currently, and where you wish to be.

"As an RMT, I wasn't sure if coaching sessions were necessary but SO glad I started with Ultra Team. I've been seeing Edwyn for over a year and the value he's added to my practice has been amazing! He's helped me navigate through my communication struggles and it's been such a game changer. Pretty sure Ed will be apart of the rest of my career!"
"We need strong leaders to lead us in our organizations, especially those with empathy. I have the privilege of working with Edwyn from Ultra Team Development. He uses Emotional Intelligence, behavioral profiling, and other methods to help organizations to shape better leaders and, as a result, better teams. Edwyn is down-to-earth and awesome to work with, and I highly recommend Edwyn to organizations that are seeking to nurture their leaders."
"I’ll put it simply into single words why anyone would want to deal with Edwyn:
Leadership. Inspiring. Motivational. Vision. Wisdom. Proactive. Strategic. Compassionate. Empathetic. Caring. Calm.
I have seen Edwyn carry himself as the utmost professional and am happy to call him a friend and would absolutely recommend him to anyone in need of his consulting services."
“Edwyn is a unique leader and one from whom we should all take note - he is a listener, a tremendously engaging and positive communicator, and he works with others to get things done. I’ve seen him in action and he brings out the best in his team. His positivity is contagious."
"We were a small local trail run with big dreams when Edwyn worked with our team, and he quickly became integral, creating his role of an Operations Director; helping us build the structure and organization that has laid the foundation for our growth. That first event has become internationally-recognized and is the largest ultra trail running event in Canada.
Through all the pressures and challenges, Edwyn kept things positive and creative, and has remained a good friend."
"We found Ed by chance while looking for a management course to help our project manager. His program seemed wholesome and very interesting so we contacted him immediately.
Since our first phone conversation, we felt a strong connection with Ed and what he had to offer.
The initial progress was HUGE!
We learned so much about team management, business systems and operations improvement in such a short time, and the results were evident immediately.
Ed's way of teaching is personal, positive, organic and extremely easy to follow. Ed has been working with us for 9 months now, and we look forward excitedly as we continue into our next steps of his program.
Thanks to Ed our Business improved significantly through all aspects of team building, systems and operations as well as the bottom line. If you want to improve call Ed, he'll help you."
"I have known Ed Kumar as a student and a martial arts practitioner for over 20 years. Ed has taught the adult Kickboxing Skills & Conditioning classes at my school for over 10 years.
Ed is an excellent martial arts practitioner and a skilled, personable, and energetic coach. Ed is an intelligent, empathetic & disciplined individual. We have brainstormed about business practices on numerous occasions and his knowledge of business is of great value."
"I’ve been fortunate enough to work with Edwyn over the years in different venues and his expertise and mentorship has helped me grown professionally and personally. His knowledge about industry, business and growth always triggers me to reach out and ask him questions almost everyday! Thanks for the years Edwyn!"
"When I was appointed to a new management position in a larger company, Edwyn was very instrumental in my transition—helping me formulate and execute a plan for my first 90 days that really gave me the confidence to perform with the skills that I had developed but not fully realized yet.
Edwyn has a lot of experience, both personally and professionally, and he is not shy to draw parallels to that experience when relating to coworkers and clients.
In the time that Edwyn has been a mentor for me, he has energetically gotten to know me and what I am passionate about and motivated by. Using that information, he has been able to help me tailor my own success as an effective leader and manager."
